Third Army getting new commander

Published: May 25, 2011

A new general will take command next week of the Third Army, which is scheduled to move its headquarters to Shaw Air Force Base this summer.

Maj. Gen. Vincent Brooks is scheduled to accept the command during a June 3 ceremony at Fort McPherson, Ga., where the Third Army is now based. He will replace Lt. Gen. William Webster, who is retiring after 37 years of service. Brooks’ last assignment was commanding general of the 1st Infantry at Fort Riley, Kan.

The Third Army oversees logistics and support for ground troops in Afghanistan and other soldiers in the Middle East and Central Asia.
