Anita Hill will speak at the University of South Carolina Oct. 20 to mark the 20th anniversary of her testimony during the confirmation hearing for now U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Hill, now a law professor at Brandeis University, will deliver the "Adrenée Glover Freeman Lecture in African American Women's Studies" at 4 p.m. in USC's law school auditorium, according to a news release.

In 1991, Hill testified before the U.S. Senate that Thomas, Hill's former boss at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, sexually harassed her. The Senate later confirmed Thomas with a 52-48 vote.

Every year since then, some locals have held an "Anita Hill Wake Up Call Anniversary Celebration" in Columbia. This year's party, also scheduled for Oct. 20, will be at 701 Whaley Street from 5:30 to 8 p.m., according to the group's website.

Hill is scheduled to attend this year's party, which is free and open to the public. On Oct. 21, Hill is scheduled to give the keynote address at a conference hosted by the S.C. Women Lawyers Association, according to a news release.
