Shaw Air Force Base officials on Monday celebrated the grand opening of a $6.5 million fitness center.
Col. Don Godier, 20th Fighter Wing vice commander, and Col. Walter Fulda, 20th Mission Support Group commander, cut the ribbon to officially open the new 25,000-square-foot addition, which includes a new cardio room, weight room and mens and womens locker rooms. The facility also boasts $750,000 in new fitness equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals and free weights.
The old facility was constructed in 1968. The addition is almost five times the size of the existing facility and has some energy savers such as light and water conservation sensors and solar shades.
