The U.S. Department of the Interior has named the Three Rivers Greenway as one of 100 sites considered part of America’s Great Outdoors.

Two sites were selected in each state as part of a report identifying projects that conserve important land, build recreational opportunities and spur economic growth, according to a Monday news release from Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

Included in S.C. are conservation of the longleaf pine ecosystem in southeastern South Carolina and expansion of the Three Rivers Greenway in the Columbia area. “My staff and I have been asking each governor for the most promising projects to support in their states and we will do all we can to help move them forward,” Salazar said.
