LEXINGTON 1: Students from Pleasant Hill Elementary collected 589 pairs of used shoes during the month of October to donate to the organization Shoes 4 Water. The project, based in Kenya, Africa, provides drinking water to remote villages by digging wells for the Kenyan people. Shoes 4 Water will sell the donated shoes to exporters and recyclers for resale and materials. The profit from the shoes will then be used to buy water filtration systems, well-drilling rigs and other necessary supplies for clean water. Shown here are second-graders Ivy Drummer, Gracie Williams, John Lajoie and Cory Monts, donating shoes for the project. LEXINGTON 1/USED WITH PERMISSION
