Fashion magazine wonders if Haley will become president

Published: January 7, 2012

When you want to know about politics, don't most of you often turn to magazines that you would find a beauty salon?

Marie Claire asks "Will Nikki Haley Be Our First Female President?"

To be fair, the profile of South Carolina's governor offers some helpful advice to women trying to succeed in male-dominated fields: "I tell women, 'War stories are the ones that really define you.' "

"...At a staff meeting, one of the executives looked at me and said, "Nikki, why don't you get Paul (another executive) a cup of coffee?" I called my assistant and asked her to bring him coffee. I wanted to let them know, Hey, I don't get coffee. Yet I didn't want to embarrass them."

She also talks about choosing her words more carefully (she apologizes - again - for the "little girl" remark about a Charleston reporter), her love for Joan Jett ("When I am going through the toughest times, I'll blast her music.") and handling bigotry while growing up (the beauty pageant story).

And Haley lists her role models (among them Margaret Thatcher, Martina Navratilova -- and Joan Jett.)

That all sounds presidential, right? Wait, the hairstylist just call me back...
