A Columbia man killed in a Saturday afternoon traffic accident on I-20 near Columbia has been identified as Norris Scott, 54, of Columbia.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Sunday that Scott lived on Wexford Lane in the city.

Scott, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the GMC Yukon he was riding in after it overturned while trying to avoid another vehicle that was speeding, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver, his wife, Kathy Scott, 51, swerved to avoid colliding with the other car, said to be a white sedan, that had pulled into her lane.

Kathy Scott, who was wearing a seat belt, had non-life threatening injuries, as did another passenger in the vehicle, who was also wearing a seatbelt.

The Highway Patrol is investigating and seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
