SCHOOLS

LEXINGTON HIGH BIOLOGY TEACHER EMILY DURRETT, along with two other scientists, researched elements of two genes connected to tumor formation and cancer. Plasmid, a research journal, published the article written by Durrett and her team.

CARDINAL NEWMAN’S JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL QUIZ BOWL TEAM won first place in the South Carolina Knowledge Master Open. Team members are: Lillie Heidari, Clover Robichaud, Lee Khoury, Nick Miletello, Brian Maroney, Max DeMouy, Ryan McGillan, McCarley Maddock and Katie Dodds.

SPENCER JONES of Chapin has been chosen to participate in the Lipper Internship Program at the Museum of Jewish Heritage- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in Lower Manhattan.

MARY SOLOMON was honored by the Southern Area of the Links Inc. for 40 years of dedicated service to The Links Inc., a national service organization.

MILITARY

ARMY RESERVE PFC. GREGORY O. COOPER has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The son of Sandra Cooper, he is a 2011 graduate of Dutch Fork High School.

MARK A. PROVENCHER recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. The son of Sherry and Richard Provencher, he is a 2002 graduate of Ben Lippen School.

ALAN R. CLINE recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. The son of Loretta S. Mosteller Jumper and William R. Cline Jr., he is a 2010 graduate of Dreher High School.

ZACHARY S JEFFCOAT recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. The son of Bridget Jenkins and Phillip Jeffcoat, he is a 2009 graduate of Lexington High School.

MATTHEW S. DYLEWSKI recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. The son of Jeanne M. Chambers, he is a 2010 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School.
