Politics is a circus - literally: An elephant will choose a Republican candidate

Published: January 17, 2012

At least one vote in the S.C. primary will be cast early.

Asia, an elephant from the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey circus, will choose among three presidential hopefuls -- well two hopefuls and one long-long-long-long shot.

She will have three 15-inch-by-15-inch photos Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich -- the current top two candidates in Saturday's S.C. presidential primary according to recent polls --- along with Stephen Colbert, who is not on the ballot and instead is asking people to vote for Herman Cain to show their support for the comedian.

Asia will cast her vote by painting on the picture of the candidate of her choice.

The public is invited to see Asia vote at 11 a.m. Thursday at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia.

Be warned: People will be frisked for peanuts to avoid influencing Asia's vote.
