Two 15-year-old boys have been charged with breaking into a portable classroom Wednesday night at Gilbert Primary School, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday.

The incident happened about 8:20 p.m. at the school at 520 Main St., Gilbert, and was witnessed by an off-duty Sheriff’s Department supervisor who was walking near the school, Sheriff James Metts said. The boys were arrested a short time later.

Detectives will recommend that the two, who were not identified because of their ages, be charged with second-degree burglary, Metts said. One boy lives near Gilbert, the other near Leesville.
