Steven Naifeh, a Pulitzer Prize winner and member of the Columbia Museum of Art, will give a lecture and sign copies of his recently lauded book at a champagne reception at the museum. “Van Gogh: The Life,” a biography of the painter’s life written by Naifeh and Gregory White Smith, earned critical praise, and the Aiken residents were featured on the CBS news program “60 Minutes.” Their biography, “Jackson Pollock: An American Saga,” won a Pulitzer and was adapted for “Pollock,” an Oscar-winning film. The authors immersed themselves into Van Gogh’s often chaotic life, spending 10 years researching the book. The event starts with a champagne reception at 6 tonight at the museum, at Main and Hampton streets. $50 for nonmembers and $75 for nonmember couples, and $25 and $35 for members; www.columbiamuseum.org
Town Theatre presents “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” the comical tale of two con men battling over swindling rights to a small town on the French Riviera. The show runs through Feb. 4. The Columbia Home Building and Remodeling Expo kicks off at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Remodeling and building professionals will be on hand to answer questions and inspire new ideas from 2-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Columbia Classical Ballet will present “Lifechance: Gala of the Stars” at 7:30 p.m. at the Koger Center. Brooklyn Mack, now with Washington Ballet, trained with Radenko Pavlovich, classical ballet’s artistic director. Mack, an Elgin native, was recently named one of 25 to Watch by Dance Magazine.
