SCHOOLS

MARY KATHERINE HALL and MOLLY RAINWATER of Cardinal Newman and NOEL JOY MCDANIEL of Brookland-Cayce earned recognition on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Scholar All-America Team.

JASON E. YAMAN, a social studies teacher at Blythewood Middle School, received the Beveridge Family Teaching Price from the American Historical Association.

MATT SCHNABEL, an environmental studies teacher at White Knoll High, received a $1,400 grant from Palmetto Pride to promote recycling at the school.

LARA MATHIS, a Special Education teacher at Gilbert High, received a $1,000 DHEC Recycling School Grant.

SALUDA RIVER ACADEMY FOR THE ARTS was awarded a $4,500 grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission.

Lexington students won first place at the Junior Classical League Fall Forum. CLARA BRIGMAN of Lexington High placed first in vocabulary I. CAROLINE EMANUEL of Lexington High won first place in advanced vocabulary, CARSON POMPILIUS of Lexington Middle won first place in reading comprehension and DILLON PRESTO of Lexington High placed first in advanced grammar.

COMMUNITY

LT. BILLY AIKEN, DEPUTY JASON JONES, DEPUTY WILL PATTERSON , SENIOR CRIME INVESTIGATOR MIKE PHIPPS and SGT. WESLEY SWINSON attained the Master Diver rating administered by Scuba Schools International.

MILITARY

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. WILLIAM YARBER has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The son of Jill Lester of Columbia, he is a 2010 graduate of Irmo High.
