C.A. Johnson closed out the first half of the Region 3-1A basketball season with a split decision Tuesday at Lewisville.
The Green Hornets girls (7-9 overall) completed a 5-0 run in the first round of conference play with a 59-38 rout of the host Lions. Nakia Owens led the way with a season-high 19 points, and Logan Furtick scored 12. Denesha Moye (9 points), Deja Smith (8) and Naquita Young (7) provided solid backing to the double-digit producers.
In the nightcap, the CAJ boys (6-10, 3-2) fell out of second place after dropped a 53-48 decision to Lewisville. The Hornets trailed 18-11 at the end of the first quarter and never recovered. It was actually Johnsons the second loss of the season to the Lions the first being in the semifinals of the Sweet 16 tournament in Orangeburg.
