VOLUNTEERS

DOBY’S MILL ELEMENTARY is looking for volunteer readers to help kindergarteners achieve 100 books in 100 minutes. Monday’s event is in recognition of the 100th day of school. If you can be a volunteer reader that day, call Betsy Long, (803) 420-8114, ext. 8448.

SUNSET FELINES is in urgent need of reliable folks to spare an hour a week (mornings or late afternoons, weekdays and weekends) to assist with the feeding of several cat colonies in Lexington County. HAMMOND SCHOOL will award $120,000 worth of scholarships as part of its Distinguished Scholars program. To qualify, students must be rising ninth-graders with an A average, in the top 10 percent of their class and test in the top 10 percent nationally; students must be nominated by a third party, be of exemplary character and possess leadership skills or have made a positive contribution to a group or cause. TRANSITIONS downtown homeless recovery center needs donations of personal hygiene kits, men’s and women’s socks, underwear, coats and gloves. Since clients perform all of the lawn maintenance at Transitions, lawn equipment and other tools such as ladders, hand tools, electric drill/bits, shovels, rakes and blowers are also needed.
