Pedestrian killed in Lexington

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday night in Lexington.

Lexington police and the Lexington County Coroner’s office are investigating the accident which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on West Main Street in front of the K-Mart, police spokesman Lt. Carroll W. Bledsoe Jr. said.

The pedestrian was trying to cross West Main Street when he was struck by a Lexus SUV. Traffic on the busy thoroughfare was closed for several hours while authorities investigated but was reopened to traffic by 11 p.m.

The identity of the pedestrian was not released pending notification of next of kin.
