Police discovered a meth lab at a West Columbia storage facility today.

The discovery came after West Columbia Police were conducting search warrants at the facility following some arrests for larcenies at a local Laundromat. When they opened a unit belonging to Danny Ray Suggs, 36, of West Columbia, and smelled chemicals. Maj. Jackie Brothers said as soon as they knew the area might’ve been used to make methamphetamine, they left and called in a chemical removal team. Brothers said that the team was able to remove all of the chemicals safely, and sent what they found to the State Law Enforcement Division for inventory. She said the department did not yet know what quantity of manufactured methamphetamine was found.

Brothers said it looked as if the storage unit had been used to make meth for some time. She said Suggs, who already faces three charges each of larceny and malicious property damage, will likely be charged with manufacturing methamphetamine in the incident. He’s being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
