The first five days of February felt more like early April, with the third hottest average daily high temperature for that period in Columbia history.
The average daily high of 72.61 degrees for Feb. 1-5 trails only 1927 and 1990 for hottest start to February, according to the Southeast Regional Climate Center. In terms of daily average temperature (daily high plus low, divided by two), the past five days rank seventh in 125 years of Columbia weather records.
Temperatures are expected to cool slightly this week, with highs in the lower 60s and lows in the upper 30s.
