SCHOOLS

LILIAN ALURI, an Aluri Home School of Columbia student, won “Best of Show” in South Carolina’s 2012 Junior Duck Stamp Contest with her pencil drawing of a female Mallard.

RICHLAND 2 student artists won many awards at the 2012 Scholastic Arts Awards of South Carolina exhibit: Courtnee Broussard, Brittany Lopetrone and Alexus Wiggins, Blythewood High; Lucy Counts, Cleavon Flojo, Dwayne Perry, William Mathis and Adrian Jacobs, Richland Northeast High; Lee’andria Hunter, Christina Nealis, Iantha Fort Rosario, Victoria Moore, Jasia Postell, Allison Rupprecht, Sophia Skelly, Abi Styne, Kamree Thompson, Jalen Davis, Jacci Myers and Brianca Robinson, Ridge View High; Jelani Dozier, Catherine Pollock, Passhunate Scott, Kali Fletcher, Colton Rabon, Abby Raush, Andrea Gibson, Madeline Harris, Jordan Mickle, Linda Thomas and Steven Williamson, Spring Valley High.

JANAY CHISOLM, of Irmo High School, won a spot in the State Finals Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest.

RACHEL MARTIN, of Lexington High, won the 2011-2012 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship award.

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE PRIMARY AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS were awarded the HealthierUS School Challenge Silver and Bronze Awards respectively.

CODY PROVEAUX, of Pelion High, won the American Junior Golf Association Rolex Player of the Year award.

COMMUNITY

FIELD TRAINING OFFICER ANTHONY ADAM CREECH has been named employee of the quarter by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Advisory Council.

MILITARY

AIR FORCE AIRMAN DAICOLT K. LOPEZ ALFONSO graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Lopez Alfonso is the son of Haydee Alfonso Medina of Columbia.

ARMY PVT. AMY E. HOLECEK graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The daughter of Frances Holecek, of Columbia, she is a 2008 graduate of Spring Valley High.
