Columbia police are looking for a driver who fled after his vehicle collided with a bus carrying 25 Alcorn Middle School students home Wednesday.

Police said the car and a school bus collided shortly after 4 p.m. at Ashley and Middleton streets in the Eau Claire area.

One student complained of pain in her head and was taken for medical care while the remainder went home on another bus, Richland 1 spokeswoman Karen York said.

The bus was struck on the left front side but its driver was not injured, police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.

An unknown number of passengers in the car received medical care for minor injuries, she said.

It was the second accident this week involving a Richland 1 bus. Monday afternoon, seven people from a 35-seat Richland 1 bus were taken to an area hospital for treatment for observation, including five students, after police say a car crossed the center line on Atlas Road and struck the bus. A passenger in that car was killed.

The investigation into Wednesday’s accident is continuing.
