A pair of separate single-car, single-occupant collisions claimed the lives of two men on Valentine's Day.

In Lexington County around 11:15 a.m., a 56-year-old man died after his Crown Victoria veered off SC 6 at Bethany Church Road, South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Bryan McDougald said.

The car hit a utility pole, McDougald said. The driver, identified by Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman as James Ellis Yancey, was taken to Lexington Medical Center for treatment but died from his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, McDougald said.

In Sumter County around 11:54 a.m., a 76-year-old Dalzell man died after his car veered left off Live Oak Road in Sumter County and struck a tree, Senior Trooper Grant Kelly said.

The man was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene, Kelly said. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The wrecks are under investigation.
