Kevin Cornett is the new police chief in the Lexington County community of Springdale.
Cornett, 29, starts his new role Thursday as head of the eight-officer force in the community of 2,600 residents.
He has been in law enforcement seven years, recently as a sergeant overseeing a special operations unit after supervising patrols and investigations in nearby Columbia
Town leaders picked him from more than 40 applicants for the post.
