Ex-firefighter loses suit for back insurance premiums

A former Columbia firefighter Wednesday lost his lawsuit aimed at forcing the city to pay him 29 years of past-due health insurance premiums.

A unanimous S.C. Supreme Court upheld a lower-court ruling that threw out Robert L. Knight Sr.’s case. The justices said the judge decided correctly when he said Knight failed to show that the city or Fireman’s Retirement and Pension Fund intentionally disregarded a court order to pay the benefits.
