SCHOOLS
The Spring Valley Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Christopher Selby, was awarded superior rating and first place in the National Orchestra Festival sponsored by the American String Teachers Association.

COMMUNITY
The Lexington County Sheriff promoted five deputies including Mark Joyner of Gilbert, Jess Laintz of Batesburg, Robert Snuffer of Pelion, and Nicholas Burt and Edward Richardson, both of Lexington.
YOUTH
Jessica Garrison was crowned Miss S.C. United States 2012. Garrison is a senior at Chapin High School.
MILITARY
Army Reserve Pfc. Joshua J. Altman graduated from basic infantry training. Altman is the son of Rebecca and Mark Altman of Irmo.
Army Pvt. Stan K. Etheredge graduated from basic infantry training. Etheredge is the son of Jenny Green of Columbia.
Army Pvt. Christopher T. McQuaige graduated from basic infantry training. McQuaige is the son of Christopher and Jacqueline McQuaige of Columbia.
Air Force Airman Devin C. Carpenter graduated from basic military training. Carpenter is the son of Dale and Susan Carpenter of Lugoff.
