Sandlapper tournament opens Saturday at Gilbert

The 10-team Sandlapper Invitational spring baseball tournament gets underway with six games on Saturday at Gilbert High.

The host Indians are in action in the first two games of the day – at 9:30 p.m. against Airport and at 11:30 a.m. against Swansea in a battle between two current Class 2A region leaders.

Brookland-Cayce and Batesburg-Leesville are the other Midlands entries. B-C opens with a 1:30 p.m. date against Greenwood, while the Panthers close out the busy first day with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Newberry.

The second and third rounds are scheduled on Monday and Tuesday. Five games are on the slate both days, beginning at 10 a.m.

Place games are set for Wednesday with the championship game tentatively set for 7 p.m.

SATURDAY

Gilbert vs. Airport (9:30 a.m.); Gilbert vs. Swansea (11:30 a.m.); Greenwood vs. Brookland-Cayce (1:30 p.m.); Barnwell vs. Laurens Academy (3:30 p.m.); Fox Creek vs. Laurens Academy (5:30 p.m.); Batesburg-Leesville vs. Newberry (7:30 p.m.).

MONDAY

Gilbert vs. Brookland-Cayce (10 a.m.); Airport vs. Swansea (12:15 p.m.); Airport vs. Greenwood (2:30 p.m.); Laurens Academy vs. Newberry (4:45 p.m.); Barnwell vs. Fox Creek (7 p.m.).

TUESDAY

Gilbert vs. Greenwood (10 a.m.); Swansea vs. Brookland-Cayce (12:25 p.m.); Laurens Academy vs. Batesburg-Leesville (2:30 p.m.); Batesburg-Leesville vs. Barnwell (4:45 p.m.); Newberry vs. Fox Creek (7 p.m.).

WEDNESDAY

Ninth place game (10 a.m.); Seventh place game (12:15 p.m.); Fifth place game (2:30 p.m.); Third place game (4:45 p.m.); Championship game (7 p.m.).
