SCHOOLS

BLYTHEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL was one of the 25 schools in the U.S. and Canada chosen to recieve a $2,000 Project Ignition grant for 2012.

RICHLAND 1 Principal of Logan Elementary, Richard Moore, was named the 2012 Honor Administrator of the Year by the S.C. Music Education Association. Students Carina and Alessandra Tuel were named distinguished finalists in the 2012 Prudential Spirit of the Community Awards.

LEXINGTON 1 approved the promotion of R. Clark Cooper as principal of Pelion High School, the hiring of Julie DeLong Painter as academic dean for innovation at River Bluff High School and the transfer of John Robert Jackson to assistant principal at Meadow Glen Middle School.

COMMUNITY

RICHLAND COUNTY CONSERVATION COMMISSION was recognized by Gov. Nikki Haley as part of the state Historic Preservation Awards.

YOUTH

EDDIE PICCININI was named the 2011-12 Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year.

MILITARY

EVAN L. JACKSON has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program. The program allows recruits up to one year to complete prior commitments before reporting for basic training. The son of April P. Dillon of Elgin, Jackson is completing his senior year at Lugoff-Elgin High School.

NAVY SEAMAN ISAAC W. RYAN has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Ryan is a 2003 graduate of Ridge View High School.
