April 11, 2012

The 2nd South Carolina Baseball Invitational spring break baseball tournament starts on Thursday and runs through Sunday at Blythewood High.

The eight-team field features three Class 4A top 10 teams – No. 1 lexington, No. 3 Blythewood and No. 8 Sumter. Hammond and Richland Northeast are the other Midlands entries, while Carolina Forest, Laurens and Hilton (NY) round out the roster of teams.

The SCDI championship game is set for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Lexington has already secured the Region 5-4A championship under first-year coach Brian Hucks. Blythewood has clinched the No. 1 seed out of Region 4-4A, and can make its outright region title with one win in its final three conference outings. The celebration could come when the Bengals resume region play on April 17 against Ridge View.
