SCHOOLS
LEXINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO BOARD OF TRUSTEES appointed Nicole Singletary as the new principal for the Congaree-Wood Early Childhood Center and Wood Elementary School Complex. Brad Coleman was appointed the new principal for Pine Ridge Middle School.
THE WHITE KNOLL HIGH SCHOOL guidance department recently received two grants. Shea McCormack received $125 through the Personal Pathways to Success Contest, and Celestine Peters received $1000 from the Walmart Foundation.
LEXINGTON ONE SCHOOL NURSES were recently honored. Stacie Neeley of Lexington High School was named Nurse of the Year for the district, Jessica Porter of Oak Grove Elementary was selected as the National Board for Certification of School Nurses 2011 State Liaison of the Year and Amy Donaldson of White Knoll High School received the MaryEllen Hatfield School Nurses Scholarship from the S.C. Association of School Nurses.
COMMUNITY
THE TOWN OF BLYTHEWOOD was recognized with a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
YOUTH
PELION HIGH SCHOOL HOSA MEMBERS Matt Treaster, Sarah Poole, Rebecca Christopher, Beth Poole and Rebekah Treaster won first place at the South Carolina Health Occupations of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference.
LEXINGTON TECHNOLOGY CENTER HOSA MEMBERS Ashlyn Harrington, Lindsay mabe and Alexus Parker won first place in Creative Problem Solving at the South Carolina Health Occupations of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference. Ashley Hall won third place in Concepts of Healthcare.
MILITARY
NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DARIUS SELLERS has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Sellers is the son of Joyl L. and Willie R. Oliver of Cassatt.
NAVY SEAMAN BRANDON L. HARPER has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. The son of Michelle and David L. Harper of Columbia, he is a 2008 graduate of Spring Valley High School.
NAVY SEAMAN BENJAMIN D. DUKE has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. The son of Betsy S. and Joel M. Duke of Swansea, he is a 2007 graduate of Swansea High School.
