UPDATE: Four suspects in the Thursday night Garners Ferry Road drug bust and shooting have been identified by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
Joshua Ramon Rose, 27, was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Richland County Sheriffs deputies shot Rose after he allegedly struck and injured a deputy sheriff with his vehicle as he was attempting to flee arrest during the drug bust at the Austin Woods Apartments in the 7600 block of Garners Ferry Road.
Rose is recovering from his wounds at a local Columbia hospital and will be moved to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center as soon as possible, Sheriff Leon Lott said in a press release.
Three deputies with the elite drug suppression team opened fire on Rose after he rammed his car into Deputy Adrian Thompson, a five-year veteran of the department, Lott said.
Thompson suffered a non-life threatening leg injury and was being treated at a local hospital, according to Lott.
The incident began around 8:45 p.m. Thursday night when officers, responding to resident complaints of drug dealing on the property, moved in to make arrests after witnessing a transaction, the sheriff said.
The deputies identified themselves and were all wearing Sheriffs Department insignias, Lott said.
Deputies Frieda Wyatt, George Becker and Adam Cornwell opened fire on the Roses car when he attempted to drive off with Thompson on the hood. Lott did not know how many shots were fired.
When Rose was pulled over by another officer on Patterson Road, not far from the original incident, he had sustained two gunshot wounds, Lott said. There was no one else in the vehicle.
Three other men were charged in the bust: Dexter Loadholt, 29, was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, unlawful possession of firearm, and consumption alcoholic beverages. Brandon Huguenin, 25, and Harvey Zimmerman, 28, were charged with conspiracy to commit possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and consumption of alcoholic beverages. They were being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Friday.
A quantity of crack cocaine and a 9 millimeter pistol were confiscated on scene, Lott said.
