With two weeks to go in the regular season, region championship races are starting to heat up.

Region 4-4A

Irmo rebounded from a two-loss outing on the final day of the Palmetto Cup to score non-region win over Hammond (1-0) and Chapin (3-0) last week. The Yellow Jackets (16-2, 7-0) have a busy week in store with four matches on tap – Monday vs. Blythewood, Tuesday at Richland Northeast, Thursday vs. Lexington and Friday vs. Lugoff-Elgin.

Spring Valley and Dutch Fork enter the stretch run with 7-2 region records and tied for second place. The deadlock will be broken on Tuesday when DF visits the Vikings.

Region 5-4A

Lexington has had a tough season to date, but the Wildcats can keep alive a shot at earning a first-round home date in the state playoffs with a win on Tuesday at Aiken. Lexington enters in third place with a 4-3 region mark, while Aiken is 4-2 behind region-leading South Aiken.

Region 5-3A

Brookland-Cayce returned to region action last week with shutout wins over Dreher and A.C. Flora to improve to 9-0 in conference matters and set up Friday’s championship showdown with Chapin. The second-place Eagles come the week riding an eight-game conference winning streak after dropping a 4-1 decision to B-C in their region opener on March 16.

SCISA Region 1-3A

Cardinal Newman has hit a bit of a slump of late laboring, losing four of its last five outings, but the one success was a big one – a 2-1 decision over Hammond on Thursday. Koty Millard and Cam Parker tallied for the Cardinals, who completed a sweep of the Skyhawks and all but officially locked up the region championship.
