SCHOOLS

SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS were given awards at the 2011 Printing Industry of the Carolinas (PICA) Awards Banquet. The winners include Terrell Simmons, Nick Aizcorbe, Clinique Byer, Allison Frame and Claudia Landis.

LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS won second place in the Department of Energy Savannah River Regional Science Bowl. The winners include Ben Bartlett, Carsten Bryant, Justin Garrison, Paul Shim and Allan Zhao.

LEXINGTON 2 STUDENTS recently competed in Sodexo’s 2012 Future Chef’s competition. Annie Summers was chosen Lexington District 2’s overall winner, and students Raven Bradshaw, Bailey Carter, Chloe Corley, Jessica Harman, Kyle James Laskowski, Richard Martin and Alexis Roop were also recognized.

A.C. FLORA HIGH SCHOOL was the overall winner of Coastal Carolina University’s Dr. Subhash C. Saxena Math Contest. Individual winners were A.C. Flora High School students Elliott Chartock and Gray Williams.

COMMUNITY

THE REV. M. FRED DEFORR JR. was honored for 25 years of ministry at St. Andrews Baptist Church.

YOUTH

KRYSTAL JAMISON AND NIA LIVINGSON were the first- and second-place winners, respectively, of the Ladson Presbyterian Church’s city-wide Black History Month Essay Contest.

MILITARY

JOSHUA D. KERN has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program. The program allows recruits up to one year to complete prior commitments before reporting for basic training. The son of Veronica L. and Darren L. Kern of Columbia, he is a 2011 graduate of Irmo High School.

SHAWN K. LINEBAUGH has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program. The son of Samuel E. Linebaugh of Columbia, he is a graduate of Irmo High School and Clemson University.

ARMY RESERVE PVT. LaTASHA R. METZE has completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson. The daughter of Jennifer Ball of Columbia, Metze is a 2011 graduate of Spring Valley High School.
