White Knoll advances in 4A softball playoffs

Published: May 3, 2012

White Knoll qualified for the Elite Eight level of the Class 4A state softball playoffs for the sixth time in program history thanks to a 5-3 win over Stratford at home on Wednesday in the District V championship game.

The Timberwolves are riding an 11-game winning streak and carry a 20-8 record into Saturday’s 6 p.m. opener in the Lower State tournament at Carolina Forest.

White Knoll wasted no time jumping on the Knights from Goose Creek, plating four runs in the first inning and adding the other in the second inning before leaving it up to senior pitchers Kaylin White and Savannah Terrapin. White started and went five inning to get the win, while Terrapin tossed the final two innings. Hite struck out six, walked one and allowed just three hits and one unearned run.

Offensively. Lydia Trexler and Meagan Helms had two hits apiece to account for half of White Knoll’s safeties. Trexler was 2-for-2 with a walk and one run scored. Helms went 2-for-3 with a double. Haley Holcomb had a two-run double. Ashley Hudson, White and Kelsey Campbell had the other RBIs.
