Cardinal Newman and Hammond open the SCISA Class 3A softball tournament Friday at the Pine Grove Athletic Complex.

Cardinal Newman, the No. 1 seed in the Upper Bracket, takes on Pinewood Prep at 5 p.m., while Hammond takes on Laurence Manning Academy, the No. 1 seed in the Lower Bracket at 5 p.m. Win or lose, both teams will have second games tonight at 8 p.m.

The two bracket championships will be decided on Saturday with the survivors advancing to the best-of-three championship series next week.
