SCHOOLS
LEXINGTON 1 has approved the promotion of Jessica I.M. Robinson to assistant administrator of Pleasant Hill Middle School.
LEXINGTON TECHNOLOGY CENTER DIRECTOR KEN LAKE has received the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the South Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education. Lake has been an educator for 42 years.
RICHLAND 2’s STORY CAMPAIGN has won a Golden Achievement Award from the National School Public Relations Association. The district’s 2011-2012 Back to School Handbook also won an Award of Merit.
COMMUNITY
MATTHEW MONTGOMERY OWENS has won the Presidential Award. Owens is a math teacher at Spring Valley High School, is the Chairman of the Mathematics Department and coaches the Math Debate Team.
KELLY EVANS has received the 2012 Youth Financial Educator of the Year award from Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union. Evans is a teacher at Lexington High School.
YOUTH
MEMBERS OF WEST COLUMBIA ASSEMBLY NO. 36 have received the 2012 Stonehocker Community Service Award for the second consecutive year. The Assembly also received a first place award for their support of the men and women serving overseas.
BEN BARTLETT has won first place for his senior physics project at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. In addition, Bartlett placed fourth at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
JAYME KEEFER has won second place for Business Communications at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference. Keefer, the only student from the district to qualify for nationals, is secretary of the Blythewood High School Chapter of FBLA.
MILITARY
AIR FORCE RESERVE AIRMAN CEDRIC L. WOOD has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. A graduate of Spring Valley High School, he is the son of Faye Irvin and Thomas Irvin, both of Columbia.
AIR FORCE AIRMAN KYONNA M. JOHNSON has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. A graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School, she is the daughter of Marie Andrews of Columbia.
AIRMAN 1st CLASS JASEN R. CUMBEE has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The son of Jimmie Cumbee Jr. and Karen Cumbee, both of Aiken, he is a graduate of King Academy and Aiken Technical College.
AIRMAN NICHOLAS A. DELANEY has completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Delaney is a 2007 graduate of Chapin High School.
