SCHOOLS
LEXINGTON 2 will host Silver Pass Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday at the District Education Center, 715 Ninth St., West Columbia. The permanent picture ID allows the holder to attend any Lexington 2 athletic event free.
WESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND will perform 7 p.m. Friday at the Westwood High School track stadium; free.
SADIE RODGERS was among teachers from 27 states who attended a special workshop at the Mark Twain House and Museum. Rodgers, a West Columbia resident, teaches English at Air Port High School.
FULMER MIDDLE SCHOOL has been recognized as Schools to Watch through the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, which is an alliance that promotes academic performance and healthy development of young adolescents.
KERSHAW COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHERS have been named as assistant principals for the 2012-2013 school year. The teachers include Elizabeth Turner, Jackson School; Eunice Stukes, Camden Middle School; and Accie Collins, Camden High School.
COMMUNITY
LEXINGTON COUNTY EDUCATORS Elaine Taylor, a B.C. Grammar teacher, and Amy Sugibayashi, a Frances Mack Intermediate special education teacher, attended the 27th annual Energy Educators Institute series, which is sponsored by Santee Cooper.
ROY DAMRON has received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. Damron is a member of Cayce Lodge No. 462, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the award is the highest honor a member can receive.
LEXINGTON COUNTY has recognized the Day family as Outstanding County Group of the year for Lexington County and District 1 Group of the Year for the Adopt-A-Highway program. The Day family has volunteered with the program for 10 years.
RESURRECTION LUTHERAN CHURCH has been named Outstanding County Group of the year for Richland County. The church has been a part of the Adopt-A-Highway program for 16 years.
YOUTH
ARIEL ELIZABETH FOX has been crowned 2012 Miss Lexington County Peach Festival. Fox is the daughter of Randy and Judy Fox of Batesburg-Leesville. First runner-up was Alicia Marie Elders, daughter of Ronald and Nicle Williams of Gilbert.
DAVIS BORUCKI has earned a college-sponsored National Merit Boston University Scholarship. Borucki, a 2012 graduate of Richland Northeast High School, scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT and was a candidate for the Presidential Scholars Program.
THE PALMETTO SKATE CLUB sent three local figure skaters to the Ice Skating Institute’s World Competition. Competitors included Sierra Clark, a rising senior at Irmo High School; Ainsley Gossett, a rising sixth grader at Timmerman School; and Madalyn Hair, a rising freshman at Irmo High School.
MILITARY
NAVY SEAMAN JESSICA P. SHARP has graduated from Fire Control Techician School with honors. The course includes operating principles and procedures for radar, digital computers and related shipboard equipment used to control the firing of guns, missiles and torpedoes. A 2001 graduate of Irmo High School, Sharp joined the Navy in August 2011.
NAVY SEAMAN ANDREW J. HENRY has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. The son of Penni R. and Charles V. Henry of Lexington, he is a 2006 graduate of Lexington High School.
NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT JOSEPH G. McCALL has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. The son of Robin and Ronald L. McCall of Elgin, he is a 2006 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School.
NAVY SEAMAN APPRENTICE MATTHEW S. DYLEWSKI was promoted to his current rank upon completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. The early promotion was in recognition of outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. The son of Jeanne M. Chambers of Elgin, Dylewski is a 2010 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School.
