White, Woodruff reach match play

— Two players with South Carolina ties advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur on Tuesday at Cherry Hills Country Club.

Spartanburg coach and school teacher Todd White, a former Southern Conference champion at Furman, shot a 72 to finish stroke play tied for 39th at 1-over-par.

Also advancing was USC golfer Blaine Woodruff, who shot a 75 and tied for 51st at 2-over par.

Players with S.C. ties who failed to advance included: Rob Simmons (Beaufort), 8-over par; Dean Hester (USC), 15-over; Michael Muscatel (Clemson), 3-over; Brandon Truesdale (Winnsboro/Winthrop), 20-over; and Ben Lown (North Augusta) 14-over.
