Name of street at USC ballpark will honor Ray Tanner (+survey)

Published: August 18, 2012

Columbia City Council is set to name the street in front of USC’s baseball stadium “Tanner Way” in recognition of the coach of the two-time national champions.

A resolution on council’s Tuesday agenda would name on three blocks of Williams Street between Blossom and Catawba streets in honor of now-USC athletics director Ray Tanner.

In 16 seasons as the Gamecock baseball coach, Tanner had a .700 winning percentage, led his teams to back-to-back national titles in 2010 and 2011 and made the finals this season.

The honorary naming means newly designed sign toppers will be installed above the Williams Street signs on each of the three blocks.
