The University of South Carolina said today that confidential information about 34,000 people could have been exposed in a hacker attack on the College of Education's web server.

The school said it discovered the breach on June 6.

No evidence has been found that the hackers have accessed or used any information on the server, but USC has sent notifications to everyone in the database to place fraud alerts on their credit files, school officials said.

The school has hired Nashville-based Kroll Advisory Solutions to assist people with placing credit freezes and analyzing credit reports to detect fraud.

USC has been hit with six data security breaches since 2006, according to a database compiled by the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse.
