SCHOOLS

LEXINGTON AND RICHLAND DISTRICT FIVE will issue Golden Passes today and Tuesday from 9 a.m.-noon at the district administration building, 1020 Dutch Fork Road, Irmo. Passes are available for District residents 60 and older for 2012-2013 school-sponsored events.

RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT 2 has named Katinia Davis executive director of Special Services and Daniel Reyes the interim principal of Longleaf Middle School.

THE GILBERT HIGH HOSA CHAPTER has received a National HOSA Recognition Award for being an Outstanding HOSA Chapter.

THE AIRPORT HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY CHEERLEADING SQUAD won first place in the Camp Champions Xtreme Routine competition and second place in the Cheer Competition during a four-day camp with the Universal Cheerleading Association. The team also won the Leadership Award.

A.C. FLORA HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER PHILLIP HARE has been named a Distinguished Teacher by the National Council for Geographic Education. Hare was the only teacher from the state to receive the honor.

SPRING VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA MANAGER LINDA GREEN has won the Sodexo Experience Award, which recognizes people who go above and beyond their call of duty. Green worked with teacher and job coaches to utilize students with special needs as intern helpers in the kitchen.

COMMUNITY

JAKE SHEALY has been recognized as the 2012 Support Person of the Year by the South Carolina Association of Pupil Transportation. Shealy is an activity bus center supervisor in Lexington-Richland Five.

YOUTH

MATTHEW BLANKENSHIP has received the rank of Eagle Scout following the completition of a service project, which included improving the visitor’s garden for Pin Grove Inc.’s school for developmentally disabled children and adolescents. Blankenship is the son of Keith and Melisa Blankenship of Lugoff.

MIDLANDS STUDENTS in grades K-8 may enter the 10th annual SwampFest! Student Art Contest through Sept. 24. The winning entries will be on display at the Congaree National Park’s Harry Hampton Visitor Center Oct. 6-Dec. 1. (803) 647-3965.

MILITARY

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. KENNITH J. WINGARD has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. A 2011 graduate of Gilbert High School, he is the son of Kathy Haney of Lexington.

NAVY AIRMAN DONALD A. MATUSZAK has helped form a Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions committee. He is the son of James Matuszak of Newberry.

MARINE CORPS PVT. JESSICA M. PAULCHEL has earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. She is the daughter of Michelle L. and Michael A. Paulchel of Irmo.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN JAMES W. DINKINS has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. A 2009 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School, he is the son of Angela Lane of Batesburg.

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DOMINIQUE COCKFIELD has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2009 graduate of Newberry High School.
