LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT OFFICERS have been promoted. The officers and their promotions include Aimee Lutz, full-time school resource officer at Meadow Glen Middle School; Joseph Aaron Poole, full-time school resource officer at Airport High School; John Paul Jr., master deputy; Nicholas Parker, K-9 Unit deputy; and Monica Randall, field training officer for correctional officers assigned to the Lexington County Detention Center.
TORIE LEATHERMAN has been named the 2012 middle school winner of the South Carolina chapter of the Mayflower Society essay contest. Leatherman is an eighth grader at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School.
MIDLANDS AREA DANCERS have been chosen to perform as part of the halftime show in the 2013 Capital One Bowl. ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. DEVONTE J. SIMON has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. A 2011 graduate of A.C. Flora High School, he is the son of Alicia Bennett and the grandson of Kenneth Bracey, both of Columbia.
MARINE CORPS PVT. MATTHEW S. BILLESBACH has earned the title of United State Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. A 2011 graduate of Lexington High School, he is the son of Karen and Richard Billesbach of Lexington.
AIR FORCE AIRMAN CIARA L. SUMTER has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. A 2011 graduate of Lower Richland High School, she is the daughter of Dianna Sumter of Hopkins.
CHARLES A. GRAY has enrolled in the Army ROTC program at Virginia Military Institute, Lexington. A 2010 graduate of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, he is the son of Ray Lynne Gray of Columbia.
