Westwood vs. Blythewood

Site: Westwood District 2 Stadium.

Game notes: Blythewood evened its record at 1-1 with a 27-6 win at Lexington last week. The Bengals rolled up 360 yards on the attack – 230 on the ground, 130 in the passing game. Dean Beckford was the headliner, finishing with 120 yards rushing on nine carries, including a 78-yard touchdown jaunt that opened the scoring in the first quarter. QB Kaylin Binn was 14-for-18 passing for 130 yards and one TD. Devin Albert ran for 71 yards and one score on 14 carries. Tony Rebollo had six tackles on defense and Terrell Vaughn was credited with four tackles for loss and two sacks … Westwood (0-2) treated the big crowd at their first home game with a near upset of district rival Richland Northeast. The Redhawks, however, ended up on the short end of a 21-17 score. QB Davis King was 14-for-32 passing for 190 yards and two touchdowns, but the junior southpaw also threw four interceptions. Miquelle Canaday ran for 53 yards on 20 carries. Vyncint Smith continued to impress at wide receiver, finishing with four catches for 58 yards and two TDs.

Site: Lower Richland Stadium.

Game notes: Lower Richland (0-3) jumped out to a 20-o lead in the first quarter, but saw Orangeburg-Wilkinson rally to a 28-20 win. Heath Gilmore put the Diamond Hornets on the board on their first offensive possession, and tackled on two defensive scores before the opening frame ended. One was a 95-yard fumble recovery/return by Marcus Edmond, and the other was a 50-yard interception return by Mitchell Barber. But that was it for LR ... Rashaan Bourquin had three interceptions in RNE’s 21-17 win at Westwood last week. He return the first pick 65 yards for a touchdown on the fourth play for the game, and his last theft came on the final play of the game to seal the deal. Bourquin now has five interceptions in two games. Linebacker Ahmad Dunlap also had a big game on defense with 14 tackles. On offense, veteran quarterback A.C. Whaley finished with 175 yards passing, one scoring toss and one scoring run. Denzel Washington led the ground game with 57 yards on 12 carries, and he also caught three passes for 48 yards. Ryan Howell was the top receiver with four catches for 70 yards and one TD.

Series history: The Cavaliers have won 10 in a row and 15 of the last 16 against the Diamond Hornets. RNE enjoys a command, 27-7 series edge.

Chapin vs. Brookland-Cayce

Site: Cecil Woolbright Field.

Game notes: Chapin (1-2) managed just 200 total offensive yards in a 31-0 loss to Class 3A No. 4 Swansea. Jordan Day had a solid game on defense for the Eagles (9 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack) … Brookland-Cayce also fell to 1-2 in the wake of a 33-27 loss at Batesburg-Leesville.

Series history: Chapin scored a 45-7 romp over B-C in the last meeting in 2009. The Eagles have won three in a row against the Bearcats and to take a 7-4 lead in the series.

Dreher vs. Eau Claire

Site: Memorial Stadium.

Game notes: Dreher returned to action last week and scored a 21-6 win over Columbia. The Blue Devils can go 3-0 for the first time in 15 years with another success this week ... Eau Claire, meanwhile, coming off a bye week after snapping a 13-game losing streak with a 30-20 win over C.A. Johnson on Aug. 31

Series history: Dreher’s 42-12 romp last season increased the its modern-era advantage over the Shamrocks to 17-10.
