LEXINGTON COUNTY — Lexington County is the first area in South Carolina to adopt a designation honoring military veterans wounded in combat.
County Council this week approved making itself a Purple Heart county in honor of the medal awarded those veterans.
It’s a salute to those harmed in war, said James Miller of South Congaree, state commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
The group is asking all 46 counties and the Legislature to take part in the commemoration.
