SCHOOLS

RICHLAND 2 has improved its composite ACT score by one-tenth of a point to 20.3. The average score for Richland 2 students is higher than the state average for public school students in English, Math, Reading and Science.

RICHLAND 2’S TECHNOLOGY TEAM has won a 2012 Palmetto Pillar Award. The team received the IT Infrastructure Services Award for its implementation of the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.

LEXINGTON 1 ADMINISTRATOR John C. Butler has been honored by the Association of School Business Officials International with its Distinguished Professional Eagle Award.

LEXINGTON 1 has approved the promotion of Howard E. Bissell to the position of coordinator of blended learning and special projects.

COMMUNITY

THE LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT has promoted five officers. Jennifer Burns has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant, Scott Barber and Christopher Ricciardi have been promoted to the rank of sergeant and Edward Richardson and Benjamin Booth have been promoted to the rank of master deputy.

YOUTH

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK is seeking entries from K-8 students throughout the Midlands for the 10th annual SwampFest! student art contest. The deadline to enter is Sept. 24. (803) 647-3965

MILITARY

ARMY PVT. BRITTANY O. JENERETTE has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. A 2011 graduate of Lower Richland High School, she is the granddaughter of Janie Sumter and Roosevelt Sumter, both of Eastover.

NAVY FIREMAN TODD L. SELKE JR. has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. A 2003 graduate of Dutch Fork High School, he is the son of Todd L. Selke of Irmo.

MARINE CORPS PVT. BRANDON D. BLACKS has completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. Blacks is a 2012 graduate of Ridge Spring-Monetta High School.

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT BRANDON M. HUNTER has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. The son of Christina M. and Michael M. Hunter of Elgin, he is a 2011 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School.

ARMY PVT. GIOVANNA L. DWIGHT has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. A 2011 graduate of Dreher High School, he is the son of Carmen and Tyrone Dwight of Columbia.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PFC. ROBERT W. LAWS II has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. A 2008 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School, he is the son of Theresa Laws and the grandson of Sadie Laws, both of Leesville.

ARMY PVT. SHAMARI R. REASE has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. Rease is the son of Ojetta Rease and the grandson of Moretta Brown, both of Columbia.
