Government

Columbia City Council committees: Tuesday at 9 a.m., the Environment and Infrastructure Committee will hear plans for the expansion of 701 Whaley in the Olympia neighborhood as well as consider a proposal that Columbia request a public hearing on how the construction of two nuclear reactors at the VC Summer plant might affect Columbia’s water supply. At 2 p.m.. the Economic and Community Development Committee hears recommendations on regulations of taxi cabs.

Richland County Council: Tuesday at 4 p.m. is a work session on proposed changes to laws on development, followed at 5 p.m. by the development and services committee and at 6 p.m. by the administration and finance committee. At 7 p.m., council holds its monthly zoning public hearing. All at the Richland County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St. in Columbia. On Thursday, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the council hosts a work session on its strategic plan.

Richland 1 School Board: 7 p.m. Tuesday at district headquarters, 1616 Richland St.

Around Town

Penny talk: At 6 this evening, county staff present information on the Nov. 6 ballot questions on a proposed penny sales tax for transportation and a $450 million bond issue. The session is at Bluff Road Park, 148 Carswell Road. Call (803) 576-2050.

Lexington County Council: 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at county administration buidling, 212 S. Lake Drive, Lexington

West Columbia: 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 200 N. 12th St. : Public hearing on redevelopment plan for part of downtown
