A Fort Hood, Texas, soldier from Spartanburg has been charged with manslaughter after police say he shot another soldier Sunday while watching a football game.

Army Spc. Patrick Edward Myers, 27, remains at the Bell County jail after a judge set his bond at $1 million. Myers has been stationed at Fort Hood since November 2010, said base spokesman Tyler Broadway.

According to a statement from the Killeen Police Department, three men were watching football and drinking alcohol at about 10 a.m. when one of the men produced a handgun and, while being handled in an unsafe manner, the handgun discharged and struck the 22-year-old man in the face, killing him, the release states.

The Associated Press reports that Myers was trying to help cure a case of the victim's hiccups by scaring him. Myers supposedly thought the gun was loaded with dummy rounds, the AP reports.

Killeen Police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said Tuesday that she couldn't confirm those reports. The victim was identified as Pfc. Isaac Lawrence Young, 22, of Ash Grove, Mo. Young entered active duty service in May 2011 as a motor transport operator.
