A 32-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday night following an attack on two patrons inside the Richland County Library’s main branch on Assembly Street .

The suspect, Monique Tamahr Stroman, allegedly pulled a box cutter from her pocket and cut the two women in the face after an argument, Columbia Police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.

The fight began on the library’s second level around 6:45 p.m. in the public computer area, according to the CPD incident report. The first victim’s chair “kept bumping into the suspect’s computer chair.” Words between the two women escalated into a fist fight, witnesses said. The suspect then allegedly pulled a weapon and slashed the first victim several times on the face. The second victim was slashed multiple times on the face when she came to the first victim’s assistance, the report said.

Stroman was arrested at the scene. Both victims were treated and released at a local hospital.

Stroman was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Wednesday. She’s charged with two counts of aggravated assault and providing false information to police. She originally gave police an incorrect name and age.
