A Gaston man was Wednesday charged with stealing tools from Lexington homes.
Robert Leonard Cooper III, 36, is charged with third-degree burglary and grand larceny after deputies say he was caught stealing tools off a porch at home on Knollwood Drive Friday. Cooper, who is being held at Lexington County Detention Center on a $35,000 bond, is also charged with second degree burglary in connection with a burglary at a Corley Mill Road home Saturday. Cooper was originally arrested Sunday.
Deputies say that in the Knollwood Drive incident, tools valued at $2,300 were stolen from the home. Deputies found the tools, which included hand drivers, socket sets, electric circuit locator, and an electric voltage tester, were found at Cooper’s home while executing a search warrant.
At Corley Mill Road, the homeowner’s adult son saw a man matching Cooper’s description stealing a knife and a metal knife used for woodworking from the home’s carport. The burglar dropped the items when the homeowner’s son confronted the man.
