Work started this week to widen 6.7 miles of Interstate 20, from I-77 to Spears Creek Road, in Northeast Richland.
The project will widen the existing four lanes to six; install barrier wall and drainage in narrower sections; replace the eastbound bridge and widen the westbound bridge over Alpine Road; and install about 6 miles of noise wall along various sections of the corridor.
Motorists should expect nightly lane closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., traffic shifts and reduced speed limits during construction.
The project is expected to be completed May 24.
