Columbia’s Saturday farmers market on Main Street will open Oct. 13.
City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the “Soda City” event on the 1500 block of Main, alongside the Columbia Museum of Art. The market is to be an enlarged version of the All Local Farmers Market that has been operating in the Olympia neighborhood.
Council decided to allow organizer Emile DeFelice to open the city market to customers from 8 a.m. until noon. That block of Main Street will close down one hour before and one hour after the event so vendors can set up and tear down their tents and tables. The 1500 block of Main is between Hampton and Taylor streets.
Council considered a $5 fee per table, tent or food truck space for vendors but decided against it.
