SCHOOLS

RICHLAND 1’S READING ROCKS has been recognized by the American Association of School Librarians for efforts to prepare students for life-long learning, informed decision-making, a love of reading and the use of information technologies.

ST. JOHN NEUMANN CATHOLIC SCHOOL TEACHER MELINDA BEACH has been honored with an invitation to speak at the 2013 Convention of the National Catholic Educational Association in Houston, Texas.

HEATHWOOD HALL EPISCOPAL SCHOOL has inducted five members into its Cum Laude Society. The 2013 inductees include Pinkney Beal, Brooke Grice, Hunter Johnson, Maddie Norris and Grace Smith.

SAXE GOTHA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has been recognized as one of six South Carolina Title I Schools recognized for superior student achievement.

MILITARY

CIVILIAN BRANDON T. COSBY has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Lynn M. Grady-Cosby and Henry T. Cosby, both of Columbia.

CIVILIAN ADAM T. WALKER has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Tammy R. Isaacs of Columbia and Paul Truesdale Jr. of Heath Springs.

ARMY PVT. ROGER RANDOLPH has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. He is the son of Irvin Johnson of Eastover.

CIVILIAN DEMETRIC A. TUCKER has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh. He is a 2012 graduate of Eau Claire High School.

NAVY SEAMAN UNIQUE D. SCOTT has completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the brother of Diamond L. Scott of Columbia.

CIVILIAN MELVIN BELL III has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Jacqueline A. Bell and Melvin Bell Sr., both of Columbia.

CIVILIAN ORRLANDO T. GRANT has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Orangie T. Tucker and Kyle Ruffin, both of Columbia.

CIVILIAN RASHAWN D. CARROLL has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of Sabrina Y. Caroll of Columbia.

CIVILIAN MATTHEW C. DERR has enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. He is the son of April D. David of Columbia and Matthew M. Derr of Greer.
