A painting depicting the twin towers of the World Trade Center against an impressionistic American flag backdrop is unveiled during a presentation ceremony on Monday at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in Beaufort.
Created during the Lt. Dan Band concert by artist Scott LoBaido in three minutes while the song "America the Beautiful" was played, the painting was auctioned to veteran Paul Fuetterer, center, of Cat Island for $15,000 during the recent Lt. Dan Weekend. Proceeds of the sale go to the nonprofit Independence Fund which helps severely wounded veterans of recent wars.
Presenting the painting, which was signed by the artist and by Oscar-winning film star Gary Sinise, are Capt. John Woodall, left, who performs as an Elvis impersonator and works as a volunteer during Lt. Dan Weekend fundraising events, and Dick Clarke, director of operations for the Lt. Dan Weekend.
